JUBA, 24 November 2011 – More than 500 police, prison, customs and fire brigade officers of different ranks re-commissioned and reinstates recently by a Presidential Decree were today today on Thursday November 24th 2011 sworn in before the President of the Republic at Dr. John Garang Unified Police Training Tenter in Rajaf West.

Besides that 1,053 Batch 2.A of police recruits who have undergone training in different police activities and public disorder management also graduated today at Rajaf. The graduation marked the promotion of 15 instructors of the training center into Second Lieutenant. It was also witnessed by the UN/SG Representative Ms. Hilde Johnson and a number of the members of the diplomatic corps in South Sudan.

Addressing the occasion President of the Republic and C-IN-C of the Armed forces H.E Gen Salva Kiir Mayardit congratulated the re-commissioned officers and the new graduates of Batch 2.A for completing their training successfully. President Kiir appreciated the government and people of Japan, UNDP and all the partners who contributed in establishing Dr. Garang Unified Police Training Center at Rajaf West. Nonetheless, he called on the people of South Sudan not to depend on others but concentrate seriously in building the new nation with their own ability. He urged the new graduates to defend the citizens and protect their properties honestly.

On his part the minister for Interior Hon. Alison Magaya announced that the first batch of Police College will start their studies next year at Rajaf Police Training Center and that the college will award Bachelor’s degree in Law. He also announced that Ministry of Interior has planned to establish police training centers in the ten states to train not less than 500 police at the state level.

The Inspector General of Police Gen. Acuil Tito assured the public that the graduates of Batch 2.A are ready to address social and tribal conflicts in South Sudan and are ready to create a good atmosphere for socio-economic development of the new nation.
